This booklet highlights the recent developments on the Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) issue. It aims to promote greater understanding about the ERW problem and the new Protocol on Explosive Remnants of War adopted by States Parties to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) in November 2003. The booklet's primary purpose is to serve as an information tool for ICRC delegates at conferences and seminars to increase understanding of the ERW Protocol among governments, organizations and other relevant institutions. In addition, as 2005 marks the 25th anniversary of the CCW, the booklet will help highlight the important role that the Convention plays in limiting the effects of armed conflict.
