Summary, etc La Déclaration universelle des droits de l'homme, adoptée par l'Assemblée générale des Nations Unies le 10 décembre 1948, se trouve, soixante-dix ans plus tard, dans une situation paradoxale. Charte humaniste d'un nouvel ordre international, elle a été tour à tour louée et contestée, revendiquée et ignorée. Elle est apparue comme un symbole politique majeur, en réaction aux horreurs de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, une étape essentielle du grand projet – né de la philosophie kantienne et de l'idéologie libérale – associant paix et démocratie. Mais aujourd'hui, la Déclaration doit faire face à de nouvelles contestations idéologiques et à des contradictions politiques qui fragilisent le projet mondial qu'elle soutient. Cet ouvrage, qui rassemble des analyses interdisciplinaires d'historiens, de juristes et de politologues, entend revenir sur les critiques adressées à la Déclaration et sur les multiples défis qu'elle doit relever dans sa quête d'universalité et d'efficacité.
