Summary, etc Malgré ses origines philosophiques et son indétermination intrinsèque, la dignité est incontestablement devenue un concept clé du droit international des droits de l'homme. Si de nombreuses études juridiques de grande qualité existent sur la notion de dignité, aucune, jusqu'à présent, ne l'a analysée dans le contexte spécifique de la Charte africaine des droits de l'homme et des peuples. Tel est l'objectif de cet ouvrage. Adoptée en 1981, la Charte africaine est le traité fondateur du droit africain des droits de l'homme. Au-delà des droits et devoirs qu'elle énonce, elle reflète également l'histoire du continent et incarne une lutte politique pour l'émancipation et l'affirmation d'une philosophie et d'une anthropologie uniques. L'évolution juridique de la dignité au sein de la Charte africaine s'enracine dans cette histoire particulière. Sa place et sa signification dans la structure globale du texte de 1981 diffèrent donc sensiblement de celles des autres traités relatifs aux droits de l'homme. – Quatrième de couverture
