Summary, etc La 4e de couverture indique : "Le r�egime juridique des prisonniers de guerre est le fruit d'une longue �evolution du droit international coutumier et conventionnel. Il est constitu�e aujourd'hui, pour l'essentiel, de la IIIe Convention de Gen�eve relative au traitement des prisonniers de guerre, du 12 ao�ut 1949. Sur certains points, cette Convention a �et�e compl�et�ee par le Protocole additionnel relatif �a la protection des victimes des conflits arm�es internationaux, du 8 juin 1977. Ce r�egime juridique, �a l'instar de l'ensemble du droit des conflits arm�es, n'est toutefois pas une construction fig�ee dans le temps. Pour �etre v�eritablement efficace, il doit �etre adapt�e en fonction des transformations de la r�ealit�e et des divers d�eveloppements du droit international. Sur la base d'une �etude empirique, et de l'analyse des r�egimes pertinents de protection de la personne humaine, la pr�esente �etude s'est pr�ecis�ement donn�e pour objectif d'�evaluer le r�egime juridique des prisonniers de guerre �a la lumi�ere des principaux conflits arm�es contemporains qui ont �eclat�e depuis le d�ebut des ann�ees 1950. Ainsi, c'est en suivant le cours de l'existence du prisonnier de guerre - depuis la d�etermination de son statut, en passant par sa protection une fois captur�e, puis sa lib�eration et son rapatriement - que l'ouvrage invite le lecteur �a d�ecouvrir, norme par norme, comment le droit en vigueur a �et�e appliqu�e et �a quelles �eventuelles difficult�es il s'est heurt�e sur le terrain."
